About the Sheet 15 Baton Rouge Map
Bring the winding history of the Mississippi River into your home with this giclee reproduction of Harold Fisk’s Plate 22, Sheet 15. Featuring Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this detailed map traces the river’s changing courses through layers of colorful meanders. This is a reproduction print, not an original historical map.
Sheet 15 covers a stretch of Louisiana from slightly north of Baton Rouge through White Castle and Ascension Parish to Donaldsonville and beyond. It belongs to Fisk’s fifteen-sheet series depicting the Mississippi River’s present and former courses between Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
We have remastered the artwork with careful touch-ups while preserving its vintage character. The series overview image shows all fifteen maps superimposed on a map of the United States. Looking for a particular location? Send me a message and I’ll help you find it.
Print Materials and Options
Your print is created with archival, fade-resistant pigment inks using an 11-color fine-art printer. Paper prints use heavyweight, museum-quality paper for vivid color and fine detail. Borders and Framing
Fine-art paper and rolled canvas prints have an approximate 1/8-inch white border on all sides to allow for matting and framing adjustments. The border may vary slightly with the print size and original image. If you need an exact border measurement, a different border size, or a borderless print, please let me know in the order notes when placing your order.
To protect your print, avoid direct sunlight. We recommend matting and framing paper prints.
Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
Our gallery-wrapped canvas is stretched over a basswood frame with 1 1/2-inch sides. A mirrored edge repeats the outer portion of the image around the sides, preserving the main artwork on the front.
If you prefer a solid-color edge, send me a color swatch when placing your order. Gallery-wrapped canvas can be made in the sizes listed above; please contact me for pricing on large sizes.
About Harold Fisk
In 1944, cartographer and geologist Harold Fisk completed Geological Investigation of the Alluvial Valley of the Lower Mississippi River for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. His maps used geological evidence and interpretation to visualize the river’s changing paths over time.
The resulting curves and colors offer a striking view of a living river, combining scientific investigation with the visual appeal that makes these maps so compelling as wall art.
